I want some face time with you!
In February I sent out a survey to queer, trans and questioning folks in recovery to see what needs aren’t being met by the recovery/sobriety community as whole. The overwhelming answer was: we need spaces where we can be together to support each other without having to take on the additional emotional labor of being “the queer” in a group or meeting.
My mission has always been to help create sobriety and recovery resources for the LGBTQIA+ community that are accessible for anyone, no matter where they live, so we all have a chance to see people who are like us in recovery. Given the survey results, the next logical step had to be the group we were all missing.
LGBTteetotalers Face-to-Face is a weekly, online, support group for LGBTQIA and questioning folks who are sober, in recovery or sober curious. This group isn’t an addiction treatment modality – it’s a group where we can get together, see each other’s faces, hear each other’s voices, support each other and build community.
Here are the details:
When: Mondays at 8 ET
Duration: 90 minutes
Where: Zoom (link will be sent out on Mondays, by noon ET)
Who: Anyone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community or who is questioning their sexuality/gender (basically everyone but the straights)

This is new for me (and all of us) so there will be growing pains. I’m hoping that as things get going, we’re able to grow this into something truly supportive and loving.
Also – you may be wondering why there are questions about whether or not you’re POC, trans or newly out. As this grows, I’m hoping to have enough people interested to have more specific break out groups. Collecting this data now only gives me a head start when the time comes. Identifying is optional and you certainly have the choice to select “no answer.”
